How To Moisture Map Your Vessel

Learn how to properly moisture-map your vessel to determine the full extent of any moisture issues.

Moisture mapping is the foundation of every job we do at Dryboat International® because it tells us the extent of the moisture before a single hole is drilled or a dollar is spent. A full moisture map typically indicates where the intrusion begins, how far it has traveled, and which areas of the vessell are affected. Without this step, repairs are based on guesses, which is why so many tear-out and replace jobs go over budget, miss quotes, or fail surveys.

Moisture mapping gives us accurate information, protects the boat owner’s money, and ensures that the solution we propose is the solution that will pass survey the first time!

Please answer this important question on your final report...

Is there anything obstructing access to the affected areas, such as hoses, wiring, flooring, or other components that would prevent us from reaching the moisture intrusion points? Please identify any such areas and provide clear photos or videos for review.

3/16" Drill Bit

Use a drill with a small 3/16″ bit to take your core samples. Once you drill into the affected area, inspect the material on the drill flutes. If it appears darker, it indicates moisture. If the coring is blonde, press it onto a paper towel to check whether any moisture is absorbed.
